Station 3-"Downtown"Lego Coast FD station 3 is still standing after all these years. Station 3 is a single-engine house that houses Engine 24, Medic 1, and Brush 24. The chief also responds out of this station most of the time. Station 3's response area includes the downtown area and some commercial areas. Station 3 is also first-due at the beach, so the department's ATV is housed here. Even though is it only a single-engine station, Station 3 sees a lot of action. The crews here respond to many medical calls on the lake, including marine rescues, and structure fires in the downtown area. This old station will hopefully serve the department for many years to come.
The staffing at Station 3 is little different than normal. Instead of having 6 crew members on duty during every shift, there is a day shift and a night shift. Since activity in the downtown area really dies down at night, only 3 crew members are on duty during a shift. In the case of a medical call, 2 firefighters will take the ambulance and the 3rd will take the brush truck. In the case of a fire, all 3 firefighters will jump onto the engine. Staffing=1 Captain, 1 Engineer, 2 Firefighters, and 2 Paramedics, Chief from 7:00-4:00 (Daytime); 2 Firefighters, 1 Paramedic (Night) |
Battalion 1-2007 Chevy Tahoe
The chief of the department responds in this SUV. This unit usually runs out of Station 3 instead of headquarters during the day. This is also the chief's take-home vehicle. The battalion chief responds city-wide to any large scale incidents and fires. This unit carries the chief's bunker gear, spare radios, and some small firefighting equipment. |
Engine 24-2007 Pierce Arrow XT Pumper
After Station 2 was constructed, Engine 26 moved there and a new engine was needed for Station 3. Due to the small size of Station 3's single engine bay, a small but efficient engine was needed. Pierce provided the department with Engine 24 in 2007. Engine 24 is first-due to any emergency in the downtown area, as well as the beach. It seats up to 6 firefighters and carries ALS medical equipment, extension ladders, and various firefighting equipment. Being a single engine company in the busy downtown area, this truck is probably the busiest apparatus in the department. |
Brush 24-2006 Chevy Brush Truck
One might ask why a brush truck is at a downtown station...well the answer is simple; it is a quick response unit to medical calls and can easily access the beach. Brush 24 pulls the equipment trailer which carries the marine raft as well. In addition to the downtown and beach area, Brush 24 also responds second-due to the small rural areas of Lego Coast for brush fires if needed. |
